Here is a list of Pros and Cons to consider before purchasing
Last on our list and last in quality is the Palm West money clip bifold wallet. It is the only popular bifold wallet we reviewed to use “genuine” leather rather than full-grain. Genuine means that although it is real leather, it does not show any of the animal’s natural markings or grain. The top layers of the hide have been removed, and the remaining layers have pressed with an artificial stippling stamp to give it the appearance of leather. Removing the top layers also makes the leather that much weaker and more liable to stretching. It looks like leather, but we’re not a fan of the “genuine” processing.
Vegetable tanning is also problematic for leather. You can’t get it wet or it will develop permanent watermarks. Not at all beach-friendly for Palm West Leather. They claim that it’s more environmentally-friendly, but they’re using leather, so eco-solidarity is not the primary consideration. It’s simply more cost-effective to use “genuine” leather and plant-based tannins.
The clip is also not as sturdy on this bifold. It will likely wear out a little over the first 3 months and not hold your bills as tightly as it did when it was new. It’s still useable, just not as firm as we would like.
The Palm West money clip bifold wallet does have an RFID blocking liner to combat identity theft. Place your chip cards chip first into the exterior pockets, and you will be protected from unauthorized scans.
This bifold wallet with money clip falls short in convenience as well, though no more than JBL’s design. It holds 6 cards each in 2 exterior pockets. There is no quick-access pocket and no ID window. Your best organization tactic with this wallet is to place your most-used cards in the front of each pocket; otherwise, you have to flip through the stack to locate the card you want to use.
So, with low quality, durability, and convenience, what is the appeal of the Palm West bifold? Fashion. It is a unique, stylish design available in 4 colors (black, dark brown, dark cherry, saddle) with a very attractive gift box.
Don’t get us wrong. It is a solid choice for a moderately priced leather bifold wallet with money clip. But compared to the other wallets we reviewed, it seems overpriced for the quality and convenience you receive.
The Palm West bifold money clip wallet is best for the fashion-conscious man who doesn’t mind some wear and tear on his accessories.
