Here is a list of Pros and Cons to consider before purchasing
First, this is the only small waterproof wallet we reviewed that offers a leather option. You can also purchase it in a woven synthetic material called polyamide. Of course, we chose to review the leather exterior. It is coated top-grain leather, which makes it both water resistant and extremely durable. Top-grain leather is the highest quality of leather with the least amount of processing.
There are some inserts in the lining, helping the leather retain its shape. Normally, we would downgrade the wallet for not having thick enough leather to support itself, but this is marketed as a lightweight, water-resistant wallet, not a top of the line leather wallet.
The threading is nylon, providing durable stitching for wet conditions. Bellroy has even added thicker and double-stitched threading at the stress points along the edges. The zipper is YKK’s AquaGuard line. It’s a strong zipper meant for underwater applications. Think wetsuit zippers.
The Bellroy All Conditions Wallet also comes with a 3-year warranty. If you haven’t found a problem with the materials or constructions by then, you can rest assured that they did their job well.
When you open the zipper, there is one pocket on one side, two pockets on the other: three pockets total in the interior of the wallet. You can fit about 3 cards in each of the pockets on one side, but they are very tight. And because the back pocket is so close to the zipper, you’ll probably have a hard time pulling those cards back out when you want to use them.
You can fit 10 bills in the cash pocket, but you have to triple fold them to slide them in. If they made the wallet a little wider, you could fit them double folded and increase the capacity by a third.
To be fair, though, the pockets are not the only storage in this waterproof wallet. Because it zips, you can keep a large number of additional cards or bills in the center of the wallet. It’s up to you whether you think having your items stacked in the center would be convenient or not, but it does double the capacity of the wallet. You could put a key, receipts, or notes in the center for easy storage.
There is no ID window anywhere in this wallet. There is also no RFID or NFC lining in this wallet. Only the Flipside 4 features RFID/NFC protection in this set.
The Bellroy All Conditions wallet does stand up to water pretty well. We sprayed it, dunked it, and submersed it. With spraying and dunking, there was no water penetration. When we fully submersed the wallet, though, there was some water leakage through the zipper. The contents of the wallet weren’t soaked yet, and we were pleased that it did float. Left alone, water would eventually fill the wallet, and it would sink, but if you lose your wallet in the water, you do have some time to see and retrieve it before it goes under.
Is it waterproof? No, but it did pretty well as a water-resistant wallet. And the coating on the leather will keep the material from staining.
The Bellroy All Conditions Wallet is also an attractive, full-grain leather wallet. You could easily use this as both your wet and your everyday wallet. It comes in black, charcoal, and burnt orange leather with a cardboard envelope for easy wrapping.
If you’re looking for a water-resistant leather wallet, this Bellroy is your best bet. It does resist water, has a high capacity for bills and cards, closes tight a secure zipper, and is backed by a 3-year warranty. The main drawbacks are there is no ID window, no RFID/NFC protection, and the largest storage area is in the center (between the actual pockets).
